Paba upazila and Boalia Thana on the north, Paba upazila on the south and east, Boalia thana on the west.

Matihar thana was established on 1 July 1992 taking parts from Boalia thana, Paba and Charghat upazilas. It has only metropolitan police administration. About 40% area of the thana belongs to the urban area and rest to rural area. It consists of 45 mouzas and 4 wards. Of the mouzas 34 belonged to Paba upazila, 6 to Boalia thana and 5 to Charghat upazila.
